This guy was born to play.

Patrick O’Neil is a longtime student of mine and has taking lessons since 2014. Currently 17 years old and going into his senior year at Rome Free Academy, he plans to continue studying music well beyond that. Whatever institution he chooses for his college years will be lucky to have him. He’s not just a great player but a diligent and focused musician that has a strong passion for learning. In the time that I’ve known Patrick, I’ve witnessed this young man blossom into one of the most in demand percussionists in the city.

Patrick will be performing “Rope” by the Foo Fighters this Saturday at our year end recital. Be sure to come cheer him on.

I sat and talked with Pat at the end of our lesson today and asked him why music is so important in his life. Here’s what he had to say.

“Music has always been a huge part of my life. I like to use it as an escape from anxiety, and it helps me deal with whatever I need to deal with throughout the day. It also gives me motivation as there’s certain songs that I can relate to. It just makes me happy.”

I couldn’t have said it better. Keep up the great work Pat.
