Jay is finding her way

Jaylene Rodriguez is a 13 year old percussionist who will be going into 8th grade this coming school year. She’s a great player and is highly invested in music both in and outside of school. She’s been studying with me since 2014, and has completed multiple levels of NYSSMA as well as having performed at several of my end of year recitals. She’s diligent, passionate, and is a joy to have as a student. She will be performing “Since U Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson at this year’s recital on 7/6/2019. I can’t wait for all of her family and friends to check out what we’ve been up to.

I asked Jaylene to give me a few sentences that summarize what music means in her life. Here’s what she had to say.

“Drumming is great because I get to have fun hitting things. I’ve always loved music since I was little, but the rhythm inside it is what really stuck out to me. I like percussion because it’s not just one instrument, but several.”

Keep up the great work Jay. I’m so proud of all you’ve accomplished.
